Calgary Outlaws

The Calgary Outlaws have officially closed the book on their 2026 Alberta Pro Roller Hockey League season, a year that featured another strong regular-season campaign but ultimately ended earlier than the team had hoped.

Coming into 2026 as the defending Alberta Pro champions, the Outlaws knew there would be a target on their backs throughout the season. The team responded with a consistent regular-season performance, battling near the top of the standings and ultimately finishing second overall heading into the playoffs.

Throughout the year, Calgary continued to show why it has established itself as one of the league’s top programs. The Outlaws competed hard against every opponent, picked up important results throughout the regular season and put themselves in a strong position heading into the championship weekend in Edmonton.

Individual Standouts

The 2026 season also featured some outstanding individual performances from within the Outlaws lineup.

Mark Rassell led the entire league in scoring, putting together an incredible regular season with 54 points in just 14 games. Rassell finished the year with 28 goals and 26 assists, averaging nearly four points per game and establishing himself as one of the league’s most dangerous offensive players.

At the other end of the floor, Josh Ruigrok delivered another strong season between the pipes, finishing third in the league with a .791 save percentage.

Ruigrok also recorded a unique piece of league history in 2026, finishing as the only goaltender to record a shutout during the regular season.

Those performances played a major role in helping Calgary secure second place in the standings and enter the postseason among the league’s championship contenders.

A Difficult Playoff Finish

Unfortunately, the playoffs told a different story.

Despite entering the postseason with aspirations of defending their title and becoming back-to-back champions, the Outlaws were unable to find the results they needed during the playoff round robin and ultimately fell short of qualifying for the semifinals.

It was a disappointing conclusion to an otherwise strong season, particularly for a group that entered the year with championship expectations.

While the result wasn’t the ending the Outlaws wanted, the 2026 season provided plenty for the organization to build on. Finishing second during the regular season demonstrated the quality and competitiveness within the group, while the playoff disappointment will provide added motivation heading into the offseason.

The championship defence may have ended sooner than planned, but the work doesn’t stop here.
